Jaisalmer Day 8

Today we had anther early morning and 5 hour drive to Jaisalmer. I'm getting really sick of our drivers stale cigarette stench. It constantly smells in the car, and I can tell he smokes really harsh strong cigarettes. What makes it even worse is when he tries to cover the smell up. Everyone knows that trying to cover one foul stench with an equally as foul sickly-sweet smell does not neutralize the air. Ajda says that either I'm crazy, or my nose is insanely acute, because she doesn't notice anything. Winding roads for 5 hours, bumps and jamming in breaks and potholes and heartstoppingly close call collisions PLUS the smell make me feel so ill. BLAH!

Along the way we saw an adorable family of stray dogs and stopped to give the puppies some biscuits. They were SO CUTE! We were melting... And not from the desert heat. I didn't realize dogs will stay together as a family like that, but the mom and the dad were standing guard while we played with their babies and when we left the walked off together as a little family. Photos below!

Also- we are obsessed with the corniness that is Indian pop culture. There are two trashy magazines in the back of our car that we have thoroughly enjoyed reading... Because what other magazine gives you such a good ab workout? We discovered India's answer Alan Rickman on the cover today. Photo below.

The hotel we are at now is quite fancy compared to the others. While I have to admit I love the feel of the smaller hotels and the authenticity of them, I'm definitely not complaining being here! There is a pool!! I'm writing this from the deck right now. We haven't gotten any sun since being here due to being covered up mostt the time and sightseeing all day. We took today off and decided to veg out... Both of us are feeling pretty pale.

When I dyed my hair pink, I knew it was going to fade out eventually, so I decided to wash it as little as possible in hopes of preserving the color. I also know that shampooing constantly can be really damaging to your hair and since I bleached mine out, I want to do everything possible to keep keep it as healthy as possible. I've managed to only wash it twice since I got it done... Te second time being in Mumbai after traveling and flying. However, I was looking at our photos from a week ago and can see that my mission has failed. I'm officially a white blonde, despite all efforts to preserve the pink. I'm not sure how I feel about this... I'm guilty of associating bleach blonde with trashy girls (sorry!)... And since I'm going to have some thick roots at the end of this... I'm a bit nervous of what the result is going to be. Oops! I guess I'll just have to live with it for a while.

Between the hair and my skin color I'm just feeling rather pasty and white, so I'm thankful for this afternoon of sun.

I've also been dabbling in writing a bit. Not sure how that's progressing, but it's a fun and challenging exercise.

I'm really looking forward to tomorrow... We are going on an evening camel ride in the desert and having dinner in the dunes. Sounds like something straight out of the Sex and the City movie, minus the fabulous outfits and roman statues come to life.

Off to read!

Ugh, I so get that sweet sickly smell.....I can't stand it either. Drag about the pink hair. I know they have lots of dyes in India...maybe?
Glad you are taking a day of rest, it sounds like it's been quite the pace. I enjoy reading your Blog everyday
Say Hi to Ajda.
